Preview/Anteprima - Playing with daggers

ITALIANO - Post bilingue

Cari lettori, come annunciato in precedenza, il mio prossimo romanzo sarà: "Playing with daggers".

Oggi vi propongo una panoramica del mio progetto bilingue "The Tidssons' Archives", che include "Playing with daggers", "Law kills", "Sorcerer for sale", "Deal or die" e almeno altri due romanzi connessi.

ENGLISH - Bilingual post

Dear readers! As previously announced, my next novel is going to be: .

Today I’m giving you an overview of my bilingual project “The Tidssons’ Archives”. It includes “Playing with daggers”, “Law kills”, “Sorcerer for sale”, “Deal or die” and at least two more connected novels. Each book narrates a story of its own but they are all linked and should be read following the right order.

“The Tidssons’ Archives” is an urban fantasy series for adults. By saying that I don’t mean that it’s a collection of erotic novels. I specify “for adults”, because the stories are violent, dramatic, bloody and treat drugs, killings and the black market.

The main character of the series is the dealer Kara Schwert, who goes through a phase of addiction to alcohol and drugs to relieve the pain and distress caused by magic and other factors. The stories are dark and full of action but there is place for some humor too!

The series is set in Northern Germany in Stahlburg, a fictitious city between Hamburg and Kiel. I know the area pretty well, since I lived there for one year before settling down in another region. Each story contains lots of words and concepts recalling Norse and Scandinavian lore, like runes and pagan gods.

Book one, which I’ll be publishing very soon, is “Playing with daggers”.

Here the main idea is showing how Kara Schwert has become who she is and who she is going to be in the rest of the series. I find it very important to explain why she evolves in a certain way, because her behavior is crucial for the further development of the story. Her life is plagued by death but also blessed with love and magic. In this first novel there are also two main male figures with a big role in Kara’s life: Axel von Steinfeld, fay, noble, powerful and Karl, human, special agent, brave.

There are many characters starring in the series and book one is an introduction to this mysterious world. You’ll get to know the Tidssons’ twins, the vampire lawyer Johan Herzmann and others who will return in the next installments.

Keep following me to know the release date!

Nuove pubblicazioni / New publications - Post bilingue / Bilingual post

ITALIANO - Post bilingue

Bilingual post,

“Playing with daggers”
Saranno seguiti da “Deal or die” e “Sarah Dolch and the Heartchasers”.

A presto!

ENGLISH - Bilingual post

In the last two weeks I got a few e-mails where you ask me why I am not publishing new stuff. Well, the answer is simple... a day only has 24 hours, 8 hours I should sleep and 8 hours are sadly eaten up by my ordinary day job. The rest is "free time" that I have to divide between resting, writing, promoting, translating into Italian, reading and simply living and taking care of my home and social life offline.

Anyway, I am not publishing but I am creating! I never stopped writing, I'm just following a slow schedule. It takes me a while to get to the end of a novel, because I research. Yes, even if I write fantasy I really do need to gather solid information. My passion for Norse lore and language is no secret and I try to incorporate bits and pieces in my novels. In the one I'm working on there are quite a few linguistic and runic concepts that make the story livelier and more magical. So I am re-reading my annotated version of the "Edda" for important information and inspiration.

Another big reason for the lack of new novels is that since November 2015 I am very involved in the translation process of "Immortals" (free short story) and "Trusting Darkness" (dystopian novel) in 4 languages at the same time. I love it, I have a wonderful team but it's still a lot to do.

I know many authors who manage to publish 2, 3 or more novels per year... unfortunately I am not one of them. I do have the ideas, I have enough project to fill my life until I die and new ones add up to the list with no pause! However, I'm simply not that fast and since several of my works are thought as parts of a series, I also need to make sure that each volume is coherent alone and with the others and that the world building doesn't become overwhelming at the beginning and too thin later. Writer's problems!

So, I apologize for being slow!
My next new novel is going to be:
"Playing with daggers"
which is book 1 of an Urban Fantasy series for adults (I say for adults because there's a lot a violence and creepy stuff, not because I write erotica. There are some hot moments, but nothing too explicit). The next 2 books in the series (already in my work in progress folder) are "Law kills" and "Sorcerer for sale". They will be followed by "Deal or die" and "Sarah Dolch and the Heartchasers". I do have at least 2 more novels planned and I have the feeling they won't be the last.

Maybe some of you remember the novella version of it... well, it turns out that I have a lot more to say about this story, so the novella didn't make much sense anymore. There are more than 20 new chapters, an all new storyline, new subplots, new characters and much more. So, what's left of the novella? Everything, but it's in the second part of the novel and enriched with more details and twists.

I will write a specific "Playing with daggers" post when the publication approaches! Hopefully before the end of 2016.

Bye!

Ispirazione / Inspiration - Post bilingue / Bilingual post

ITALIANO - Post bilingue

Bilingual post,

In tanti mi chiedete dove trovi l'ispirazione.

- SuperQuark
- Ulisse il piacere della scoperta
- Passaggio a Nord-Ovest

Ho dovuto mettere entrambi in stand by:

So many of you ask me how I get inspired. Well, I find ideas everywhere, but today I want to talk about documentaries.

I watch a lot of them, almost every day; I follow the National Geographic, the History Channel, the Discovery Channel and random YouTube channels. It doesn't really matter if the documentary is about science, nature, history, conspiracy, people or animals... I just love them all!

However, my absolute favorite documentaries are the Italian ones produced by Piero and Alberto Angela. I grew up with them and they still offer a great variety of top quality material with different programs:
- SuperQuark
- Ulisse il piacere della scoperta (Click here to watch the episode - ITALIAN)
- Passaggio a Nord-Ovest

Today I watched an episode about the desert. The fascination for the desert is not a new entry in my life. I've seen it first hand in Egypt, navigating through the Suez Canal, in Oman and in the United Arab Emirates, where I also experienced a sand storm. Already back then, I had an idea for two novels (not part of a series) where the desert was going to have an important role.

One novel was a sort of historic fantasy with true facts about Turkey, pirates and typical Arabic and oriental atmospheres. The other one was an epic fantasy with a nomadic population of warriors, magic and lots of blood.

I had to put both in stand by:
1) because I was (and I still am) writing other stories that simply came first... yes Kara Schwert, I'm talking about you and your series!

2) Last year I finally read "Dune", it's a true masterpiece and I feel that everything that comes after "Dune" with a desert involved is just not deep enough.

Anyway... this documentary has awakened the nostalgia for my desert stories! They still live inside my head and they represent a real goal to me.

So, that's how I get inspired, at least one way. It's as easy as lying on the couch with a glass of wine! Ok, tea works too, but wine is my weakness!

Musica

In "Trusting Darkness" c'è nascosta molta musica.

Funzioneranno?
